At 13 years old,

virginia experienced

the death of her

mother. Her half

sister, Stella

Duckworth took over

the household, but

married in the

following years and

died on his

honeymoon due to a

peritonitis.

Years later, Woolf's father, Leslie, died of

cancer. This episode was the cause of his

second moment of mental collapse.

There are biographers who say that she

experienced episodes of abuse by her two half-

brothers when she was six years old. It is

believed that such situations have caused

trauma to the writer and that they would be

the reason for her depressive episodes and

eventual suicide.
