The Culture Report
6 months in prison for Chris Brown over some monkey business?
It should be understood, well understood in the digital age we all live in, that it’s a good idea to be
careful about what you post online for the world to see. Well, apparently, many of us don’t understand
that and this includes singer Chris Brown who is the latest victim of the seemingly contradictory act of
self snitching—posting evidence against yourself on online.
The “Undecided” singer went to Instagram on December 2017, to post a video of his 3-year-old
daughter, Royalty, holding a baby capuchin
monkey named Fiji. Bad move. Owning a wild
animal as a pet is generally illegal. His post
quickly filled with negative comments of all
sorts and soon after posting the proof of his
illegal act the gram, Brown was called out by
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals) who later did the actual snitching.
PETA contacted the California Department of
Fish and Wildlife who later got a warrant and
removed Fiji from Brown’s home.
Now, a year since the post, prosecutors have
decided to charge Brown with two misdemeanor
counts of keeping the capuchin, a restricted
species, without a permit. If convicted he could
face up to six months of jail time and a $1,000
fine.
Brown is adamant the video was NOT taken at
his L.A. home it was shot in Las Vegas, where
the monkey lived with a relative who was the
REAL owner.
Local authorities doesn’t seem to be buying the excuse noting the animal was taken into custody in Los
Angeles.
But, we're told Brown claims his relative happened to be in town with Fiji that particular week and it's
all just a bad coincidence that makes Chris seem guilty.
He's due in court on February 6 where he'll plead his case to the judge. Stay tuned ...
Oh, and as for Fiji ... we're told she's been in protective custody and she's doing just fine.
