he Kubotan was created by Takayuki Kubota in
Tits full key form and as we know it today, among
the weapons that preceded it we found the yawara and
many more back in time a religious artifact called Vajra
or Dorge that the Buddhist Monks carried with them as
part of of his usual religious practice. The influence of
Buddhism on the samurai caste gave rise to the later
development of Yawara techniques, Tenssen Jutsu (fan
technique) and Tanto Jutsu (knife techniques).
The martial arts Philippines adopted the Kubotan or
Yawara probably after the Second World War and they
called it Dulo Dulo. Despite being an adopted weapon
of the Japanese fighting systems, the Filipinos pro-
vided a very different way of using it, making multi-
ple movements and fluids of very fast attacks and in-
cluded in their practice various exercises to develop
sensitivity.
