A Wing Chun punch is a high energy strike;
-They are relaxed and fast.
-The emphasis is on speed.
-It utilizes the F = ½ MA squared (Force = ½
Mass x Acceleration squared)
If you double the speed, you will create 4X
the energy as opposed to doubling the mass,
which would only double the energy.
-They create more local, structural damage at
the point of impact.
-The 6 Points of Power in Shaolin start from the
earth and come through the ankle, knee, hip,
shoulder, elbow and finally the hand/wrist in
a domino effect.
To develop the highest capacity of power in
your strikes, you must develop a strong base
with your legs. This is created using the train-
ing stance Yi Gee Kim Yeung Ma. You must
then send the energy up through your center
mass (dan tien) to your fist.
High energy strikes focus on speed.
-In order to get that speed, one needs to be re-
laxed until the moment of impact. It comes to-
gether with what is known as last second ener-
gy. If you tighten your body too soon, you will
slow your strike down and result in less power.
-A good technique to practice is to create a
snap at the end of the strike, releasing the en-
ergy, then pulling the fist back. This will also
insure that you place the fist in the ready po-
sition for the next
