Mosport International Raceway
The Canadian racetrack with storied motorsports history and the site of many exciting races
in Formula One, Can-Am, Formula Atlantic, as well as grassroots club racing, started as a
dream in the minds of BEMC club members. The club purchased the land after searching and
searching for a site which would offer a challenging venue.
Always in the back of the organizers’ minds was the hope that a Grand Epreuve at the Formula
One level would take place at the track. It took six years, a long gestation period, but it was
worth it to the die-hard enthusiasts of Canadian Motorsport.
First on the agenda, the club had to organize and run a professional race, and that happened
on June 24, 1961. Stirling Moss entered and won both heats in his rapid Lotus 19, while Bill
Sadler debuted his two revolutionary Sadler Mark Vs.
Mosport layout. (Jeremy Sale/
