FORD BLUE CAR PROJECT (1972)
In December 1972, Ghia, as part of the De Tomaso Group, was commissioned by Lee Iacocca to design and develop a small compact car, which was a rapidly expanding market segment in Europe. This design exercise was carried out with utmost speed and secrecy, so much so that there were no photographs other than the ones shown on these pages taken
during the day the car was to be transported by air. A Fiat 127 was used as the base, and the final vehicle, codenamed “Blue Car”, retained the donor car’s mechanicals and dimensions. The drawings shown here were made by me and are the only existing and original ones. The 1:1 scale drawing was destroyed, and no other documentation exists.
