The single-seater cockpit consisted of a capsule in which the steering wheel was replaced by two levers located on the armrests, for a more ergonomic driving. For safety, the driver had a four-point harness that incorporated an abdominal airbag which expanded outward.
Seen for its technical aspects or simply as a car, the PM1 was designed to awaken that intimate sense of taste and charm, which accompanies a timeless design.
In March 1989, Romano Artioli, accompanied by Paolo Stanzani, assigned me the task of designing, on a Bugatti chassis, a car with
certain characteristics. What you see is a little dated, but the project is now more than three decades old and therefore certain appendages, especially the aerodynamic ones, would no longer be in fashion.
The philosophy of the project was essentially to create two distinct areas, that of traction and force tied to the ground and that of the passenger area, with an aerodynamic shape and, ideally, detached from the body. Due to a series of vicissitudes, even though it was appreciated, the project did not go any further, and I kept the 1:4 scale model.
