CHAMELEON (CAR MODULE) (2010)
As the car market is constantly evolving, we are seeing two different product positions. The Asian market is in exponential growth, supported mainly by ostentation and luxury, whereas the Western one is based on more practical reasons and from a passion derived from the early 1900s. I tried to develop and concentrate on a “timeless” image, a set of stylistic references developed in the last part of the 20th century.
The above was an exercise in not being restricted by time and a period, as this concept could have been designed many years ago or, for the matter, years into the future. I did not set out to create a “new styling concept”, but to address what was most significant in the automotive sector.
Given the steady unification of both mechanical and structural subgroups, as has already happened in many large volume domestic appliances, this proposal resumed, after five decades, the concept anticipated with the Ferrari Modulo. But in this case, the whole project takes into account the designing and the prototyping phase.
The end result was a car that was clearly very sporty but not aggressive or brutal. It was soft, flowing, simple, attractive and easy to manufacture.
One of the characteristics of this project, as highlighted in the various front and side views, is that it could perfectly fit on any existing platform or engine, it could be front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel-drive, hybrid or electric. The front and rear could be adapted to any brand, the central body was “suspended” between the two driving elements and either three or five-door versions could be developed.
The equipment and performance characteristics required for distinct segments would be offered accordingly, and the commercial network would use its own sales points. Furthermore, the functions of the two main elements such as the passenger compartment and the mechanical parts are obviously distinct and separate and can independently satisfy any operational and/or marketing needs.
