                MASERATI A6GCS — 3600 ROADSTER (2008)
In this sports car redesign exercise, I tried to capture the feeling of the 1953 Maserati A6GCS. What I intended was, with Italian mechanicals, to achieve a profound imprint of “Italian Design.” In my opinion, in recent times, Italian design has faded a little and has been diluted by other influences, so much so that it is losing some of its identity, both as a school and as a reference. Many even believe that Italian Design does not exist any longer.
The car could be powered by a 4.2-liter V8, reduced to 3.6, with power of about 350 bhp, mounted centrally at the rear and transversely. The price of the vehicle would be around €90,000-100,000 to fit into the Porsche 911 segment, and I believe that the Maserati brand is the only one able to do so. The vehicle’s dimensions would be 4180 mm in length, with a
height of 1250 mm and a wheelbase of 2480 mm.
The seats are a pair of buckets, protected by a very thick glass-Lexan composite shell (around 16 mm thick), to make it a structural element as on aeronautical fairings. For access, a subframe supports the canopy that opens forward, by lifting towards the front. The engine and the entire relative area remain “in sight” but protected by a fin that follows the profile of the vehicle. Rear visibility was ensured by a micro-camera.
The car, as can be seen, was basic and efficient, retaining a no-frills sporting spirit, typically Italian, but with a strong personality.
Of course, I would like to clarify that this project was an idea transmitted on paper through a simple sketch. Tomorrow everything could be different.
