ABOVE: Many of the earlier coachbuilt body styles were retained after the
introduction of the ‘long boot’ chassis. This is a very early R-Type, B22RT, and is
fitted with H.J. Mulliner’s design number 7220 saloon coachwork more usually
associated with the Mark VI. The older styling must have been preferred by some
customers over the more modern-looking ‘lightweight’ coachwork. B22RT was
exhibited by the coachbuilder at the 1952 Earls Court Motor Show.
OPPOSITE UPPER: B328YD, a very late (May 1955) Bentley R-Type, is an
example of H.J. Mulliner’s ‘lightweight’ saloon, design number 7243 which was
first introduced on the Mark VI chassis (see pages 92-94).
OPPOSITE LOWER: Although H.J. Mulliner’s ‘lightweight’ saloons were almost

exclusively on Bentley Mark VI and R-Type chassis, the very last Silver Dawn
chassis, LSVJ133, was fitted with that coachwork, though with the design number
7269.
