OPPOSITE UPPER: The first post-
war Bentley was chassis 1-B-VI in
the Bentley experimental numbering
series, which was fitted with handsome
saloon coachwork by H.J. Mulliner &
Co. The chassis design represented by
this experimental car was given over
ON WATSON FINE BO
to production unchanged. Indeed,
1-B-VI was later allocated a production
chassis number, B256AK, and sold.
OPPOSITE LOWER: A very early
Mark VI chassis. This is almost certainly
a pre-production chassis as there are
several oddities present. The chassis
frame is not finished in the usual semi-
gloss black, and no chassis number
plate has yet been affixed, while the
engine oil dipstick has a ‘loop’ at its
upper end in lieu of the black bakelite
knob of production cars. Note also
the tape covering the chrome-plating
of the radiator shell, applied for
shipping.
THIS PAGE: The beautiful drawings
that appeared in Company publicity
material and in the better British
motoring journals often revealed more
detail than photographs could.
