ON WATSON FINE BO
LEFT: February 14, 1947 edition
of The Autocar carried a Bentley
advertisement showing the then-new
Mark VI standard steel saloon. These
DALTON WATSON FINE BOOKS
earliest cars were rather plain, with
features such as the chrome waist
moulding, detachable rear wheel-arch
spats and rubber stone guards below
the front wings and on the leading
edges of the rear wings all appearing
later.
LOWER: This unidentified standard
steel saloon is late enough to have
the chrome waist moulding as well as
detachable spats to the rear wheel-
arches and rubber stone guards
below the front wings and on the
leading edges of the rear wings, none
of which were fitted to the earliest
cars, though the rubber items were
sometimes fitted retrospectively.
