With love and deep gratitude to my family. This includes my parents, Hans and Esther Cofer
Cohn, of beloved memory. They supported my dream of helping animals from the age of 12 as
they arranged for me to “shadow” our family veterinarian and then proceeded to drop me off
and pick me up from that veterinary practice day after day until I turned 16 and could drive
myself. It also includes my always supportive husband, Dewayne Davis, who has sacrificed for
me to follow my dreams, and put up with me spending every evening of the last 2 years with
a computer in my lap editing chapters. And of course, I dedicate this book too to my most
