PRACTICAL TIP
The ‘drainage board’ must lie flat and should not obstruct the horizontal canal. Make sure the base of
this flap originates slightly below the midpoint of the horizontal canal circumference. If the flap is
calcified, dissect between the epithelium and cartilage and transect the cartilage to make a hinge.
