SITE OF HUNTSVILLE FEMALE COLLEGE 1851-1895
Organized in 1851 under the direction of the Methodist Episcopal Church, so this institution became one of the finest of its kind in the South in the education
o f girls from the prim ary through the college level.
Its aim was to "secure the symmetrical development of body, mind, and soul." Destroyed by fire January 4, 1895. Architect George Steele.

Former pupils of the Huntsville Female College sponsored this Huntsville Historical Society (later renamed Huntsville-Madison County Historical Society) marker which was dedicated on May 31, 1959.
