FUTURE VIEW

elcome to the latest edition of FOGlet in our tenth anniversary
year! We will have a lot more to say about ten years of GPFO
in a future edition of FOGlet, but for now, let us update you
Wwith our recent activities and tell you about what we are
working on in 2019.
GPFO continues to build on its reputation as an organization where
families and family offices can meet like-minded people in a secure and
safe environment. Over the past 12 months we have offered our
members the opportunity to attend five investment clubs; an event in
Zurich; 12 lunches; three breakfasts; two drinks evenings; a summer
barbecue and our European conference.
As our members know, we are not an events company but an association of
a large number of family offices through which we provide networking, education, Mickey
research and consultancy. We have steadily been building on a number of suggestions
provided by our Association members, and in 2019 you will begin to see more of these
coming to fruition. Attendees at our January 2019 Investment Club will have had their
first demonstration of the International Deal Gateway platform, which enables
GPFO members to access a wide range of business opportunities and
transact them within a highly secure platform. Our collaboration with
International Deal Gateway allows our members to attend more global
events and meet new families and entrepreneurs.
Many of you asked last year if we could provide more commentary
on the ongoing Brexit saga outside of our event schedule. Over the last
few months we have been sending out Bruce Anderson’s prescient
comments which have delighted some readers and enraged others. We
are pleased that Bruce has written a piece for FOGlet in this edition; look
out for more of his missives on email as the year progresses. This year we
also intend to hold a series of ‘coffee with the politicians’ – more details to follow.
Our research on family office wealth transfer was warmly received at our European Michael
Association conference in Church House in October 2018 and for this year’s conference,
we are working on a number of different research projects, including what it means for
family dynamics in a world where we are all staying younger for longer. The date for the
2019 European Association Conference is 22nd October 2019 and it will be held
in Church House, Westminster – please make a note for your diaries.
Our Private Office Club (POC) has been given a new lease of life this year
and those who are receiving POC and Association membership renewals
will have seen the range of activities we have planned. Our annual shoot
is on the cards for the autumn; we have our regular summer BBQ and
Christmas drinks and of course our regular investment clubs, ‘coffee
with the economists’ and lunches.
