ON ICE?
Olympics figure skating
just wanted this different role for
us as judges,” he says. Last month
Chris and Jayne posted an online
video of themselves skating
together for the first time in four
years, which showed they’d lost
none of the old skating magic,
although Jayne confesses she felt
out of step at first.
“It felt fine when Chris lifted me,
not so much when I skated – I felt
more like one of the celebrities in
the show, to be honest,” confesses
Jayne with a laugh. “Chris has been
on the ice more than I have; where
I live [in Sussex], you can’t pop
down the road and skate. It’s fine,
but it’s about fine-tuning my
balance. The performance is
starting to surface again.”
Chris and Jayne hope that the
best Dancing On Ice skaters will
join the tour. The first half of each
live show will be run as a skating
competition, with them as judges,
and the second half will be a
skating extravaganza
choreographed by and including
Jayne and Chris.
“The second half is more about
letting your hair down with
skating exhibitions and the pros
doing their numbers,” says Chris.
Torvill and Dean remain
inextricably linked, both as a
skating duo and in the public’s
imagination. Dancing On Ice
wouldn’t be the same without
them, and after everyone skates off
after the final, Jayne and Chris will
hit the ice on the tour. “We are
excited about that,” says Chris. “We
haven’t hung up our skates yet!”
