Special Message from
Mr. Sontirat Sontijirawong, Minister of Commerce
On the occasion of 5th Anniversary of Thai Tuna Industry Association

Thailand is the major exporter of canned tuna in world. In 2017 Thailand
exports canned tuna with the value of more than USD 2,057 billion, accounting
for 55 percent of canned and processed seafood exports, and about 9 percent
of Thailand’s agricultural industry exports. There is an increase in all major mar-
kets, such as the United States, Japan, Australia, especially South Africa and
Middle East markets where there is a rapid increase during the past few years.
This achievement demonstrates the successful outcome of a concerted effort
to develop and expand the market for Thai tuna products and promote the
Thai tuna industry in global level. In addition, this also proves that tuna products
from Thailand fulfill high quality standards and regulations.

The Ministry of commerce promotes trade both domestically and internation-
ally to achieve secure and secure and sustainable growth. The Ministry provides
a strong link between the tuna industry and all related stakeholders to enhance
export competitiveness and encourage adoption of international standards,
especially the code of conducts on labor practices. One of the crucial roles is
to advocate closer cooperation between public and private partners, including
the Thai Tuna Industry Association.

On the occasion of the 5th anniversary that Thai Tuna Industry Association
has been established and operated effectively, I would like to take this opportunity
to extend my sincere congratulation to the executives, all members and em-
ployees of the Thai Tuna Industry Association. I wish you all success, happiness,
prosperity, physical strength, encouragement and wisdom that will enable you
to be a major force in promoting the progress of the Thai Tuna Industry and to
develop the nation to prosperity and sustainability.
