Thai Tuna Industry Association’s
HISTORY
In 1970, many Thai food processors were aware of profits of collab-
oration in order to enhance the quality of delicatessen food and to exchange
information in terms of production and marketing. Thus, they agreed to
establish Thai Food Processors’ Association (TFPA). The first ordinary meet-
ing was held on 21st November 1970. After establishing the association, tuna
processing company joined a part of the members in TFPA until the Min-
istry of Commerce issued the notification prescribing measures to manage
exporting canned tuna products from Thailand dated 30 January B.E. 2528
(1985). Therefore, Tuna Processor’s Group was founded under TFPA’s name
on 15th February 1985 in order to provide flexibility in the implementation
of various activities which directly benefit the manufacturers of canned
tuna.
Since then, export of canned tuna products has expanded rapidly,
and in the meanwhile issues of regulation in international trade have in-
creased respectively. Therefore, it needs to maximize operational flexibility and
efficiency through the cooperation of Thai Tuna processors to drive 4 policies:
food safety, sustainable fishery, ethical labor practices, and trade negotiations
and relevant knowledge building in order to attain wider acceptance in
trading negotiation at domestic and international levels. Thus, it has been
approved in the meeting of Tuna Processor’s Group that Thai Tuna Indus-
try Association (TTIA) should be founded and registered with the Department
of Business Development on 25th July 2013 with the registration number
0109556000835.
