To Ayanna: I... don’t even really know how to start this. Or conclude it. Or write anything in the middle for that matter. Of all that I’ve had to write, this is the hardest part. It seems like yesterday we met at auditions for marching band. Time certainly has flown since then. In four years of band and experiencing college together, I couldn’t have asked for a better friend to do it with. From getting lunch together during band camp, to coming over to study and watch YouTube together, to just spending time together to talk, it’s all been great. I hope we continue to spend time together in the future, because it’s difficult to imagine a life where we didn’t. You’re so smart, funny, talented... it’s a long list. I’m not entirely sure why or how you put up with me and everything I do, but I’m so glad you do. Thank you. Thank you for everything.
Well, it seems that covers most of the people I wanted to get to. If I didn’t mention you, my apologies... it’s a long list of people and it’s been a long week. Always feel free to talk to me in person... I’ll always be here if you need me. Band is a family, and like any family, members are always there for each other. Even if it’s time to move on from this specific role. I love you all, and I’ll miss you terribly. For those of us moving on, I wish every one of you the best of luck. For those of you who still have a few years to go, cherish it. Cherish every moment. Enjoy the sweat and pain of band camp, enjoy the freezing temperatures, enjoy every rehearsal and performance and give your all. Believe me. You won’t regret it. And regardless of if you’re moving on or staying, remember, eyes with pride. Always.

First off, whenever I read these year after year, I never thought it would be me writing one. What a wild ride it has been. What the UDMB has done for me is something that is difficult to put into words. 4 seasons done in a blink of an eye. Not quite sure where the time has gone. This band was the first experience I had at the University of Delaware and I wouldn’t want to have had it any other way. From “Mad World” to “To Boldly Go” each season’s show was unique in its own way. Year in year out, an extraordinary group of musicians come together who are ready and eager to learn drill or music. This program is truly something special. It has been an honor to be surrounded by so many talented musicians who came from different bands. Everyone brought something unique to the table and I was able to learn so much from so many great people.
From being a lost freshman in college to now writing my Senior Will saying goodbye to my Marching Band Career, it truly has been one hell of a ride. From waking up at 4:30am for the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade with the wind chill in the single digits to sleeping in a Middle School Gym on a hardwood basketball court, these are the memories that will last a lifetime. You have 4 years in college to do something special. This was definitely it.
Fast forward to my Sophomore Year of college. Not being able to go to band camp and not even sure if I would be able to be in the UDMB that year. I am so glad the Alto Staff talked me up to Sarv cause without them I wouldn’t have been in band that year. Showing up the last day of band camp and coming in was an experience within itself. I learned my dot fairly quickly and the rest of the Altos would help get up to speed. I somehow marched the first the first game of the season at Halftime and Postgame with minor complications. I guess I was just a fast learner. I’m glad I got
