“Third time’s the charm”, right? Well... Let’s hope so!
As I sit on my couch, typing away about what the hell I want to write, I am just at a loss for words. There was so much this season offered me, in ways I never saw coming, and things I never thought would happen.
Just to list a few, for example:
• Switching my instrument, and then landing a solo??? o Still confused on that one.
• Casually needing an IV of Fluids after 2 days of band camp, despite drinking 2 of my jugs of water a
day??
• Breaking my wrist the first game during rehearsal... and no joke I didn’t just fall, I flipped over
myself, summer-salting on the field, then landed back onto my feet, pretended I TOTALLY didn’t just trip over someone’s’ feet, finished that rep, and finally walked off only to spend 20 minutes trying to convince myself I was fine and my wrist was “just jammed”.
o Yeah I was way wrong
o Thank you Deena for convincing me to go to Urgent Care and get an X-Ray
• I then marched the first game in my temp cast, wrist broken, and had such a wonderful time. I
marched all of pregame, didn’t march half time, and performed my solo for postgame, I didn’t
march it because I didn’t have pain meds and of course by postgame, the adrenaline had worn off.
• Playing Queen, my dream marching band show AND David Bowie?? Are you kidding me?? AND
Baba O’Riley??? I thought my heart was going to explode from excitement ALONE!
I literally broke my wrist and still had a fantastic time—and that is the beautiful thing about this family. When life happens, this band is there to support you and help you get through the tough times. Thinking over how this season went, I am just so overjoyed and overwhelmed with emotions. There were times I laughed so hard, my stomach hurt. There were times I cried, from Sarv’s speech during band camp to the final post game. This band, this family has truly helped me smile on days I didn’t think I could. It’s no secret that what we have here is special and unique, and to each and every one of you: Thank you. Each of you have helped me laugh and smile through my college years, from personal interactions to just seeing one of you on campus wearing a udmb sweater out and about. Our community is such a warm atmosphere, and it is something I will always cherish and love.
it’s time to grab the tissues!
To my new section: Hello! What a wonderful little family we have created. Thank you for welcoming me into this new territory! I always wanted to march another instrument just for fun, and I am so glad I finally decided to do it—I guess you could say I really did decided to boldly go huh? You all have found a way to my heart, and I would like to thank you all.
Jack- Wow, you are such a wonderful friend. Over the last year or so now, we truly have gotten close, and thank you for pushing me to step out of my comfort zone and convincing me to become a Mello. You truly have helped me realize in many ways, that I need to start taking more risks and try
