cheap vodka and Chipotle that brought us here. I can’t place exactly when freshman year we became friends, but I guess we have Ari to thank for that. Somehow, the people that weren’t even supposed to be friends (lol) ended up sticking together three years later. I wish senior year didn’t come so fast and I wish the three of us were still staying up too late doing literally nothing but having stupid amounts of fun in Ari and I’s freshman dorm. If only those naive freshmen could see us now. But that’s just how it goes, I guess. College has been such a roller coaster, but I’m glad I had BlueHenEvan by my side throughout it <3
To Liz: I know you aren’t even at band banquet to read this and I know that the rookies have no idea who you are, but I needed to give you a shout out anyway. Doing my last season with the Deep Woods without you there was so hard and every single day we were out there on the field I wished you could be there too. I never thought that the quiet rookie my sophomore year (who was lowkey hilarious) would become such an important person to me. You are the funniest, most thoughtful, amazing, beautiful person and I am so glad that the UDMB allowed us to meet and that SAI brought us closer. I am so so SO proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished. Never underestimate yourself. You’re an amazing friend and I probably love you more than you love dinosaurs and the environment. Here’s to one more semester with my favorite “little” sis <3
To Keith: Oh boy! I’m really struggling to find the words to describe how much you and our friendship means to me. Like, really. I don’t even know what to write. I guess just know that I appreciate you and I’m thankful for you. I appreciate you always being there to listen and always being willing to go on Target runs with me. I appreciate the Zoup! and Shake Shack trips and all the other food in between. I’m so proud of who you’ve become as a musician and a leader and just as a person too. You’re so much more talented and capable than you give yourself credit for. I know that it’s not like we’ll never see each other again, but not seeing you as often is just as hard. Next time I see you on the field, it’ll be from the sweet spot. Keep making the Deep Woods (and me) proud :’-)
To Stevie: Whether we like it or not, we made it. I can’t imagine a season not in the UDMB, much less one without you there with me, but that’s about to be reality. You’re one of my oldest friends at UD and I can’t begin to say how I happy I am we met. You’re going to do amazing things. Love you, Stevie. Here’s to the Deep Woods rookie class of 2016 - one last time.
To the Deep Woods: First thing’s first - your new Tenor Moms: Darshan and Ryan! Darshan, Ari & I are putting you in charge of the drugs. If someone’s got a headache - you’ve got the acetaminophen. If someone’s got a sore neck from carrying our five-million-pound instrument around their neck for hours on end - you’ve got the ibuprofen. You know the drill. Kiss the boo-boos, make them better, etc., etc. Ryan, you’ve got face paint duty. I highly recommend buying it literally anywhere but the Five & Dime (that shit SUCKS) - but that is the cheapest option, so you do you! Finally, in the spirit of change, Ari & I decided to introduce a new position to the Deep Woods: Tenor Mom-In-Training! We wanted to give this to Kasey because of all she does for the section. As Mom-In-Training she can take care of anything else the section needs (i.e. snacks, advice, love, etc.) that the official Tenor Moms need help with. Ari & I are trusting the three of you to keep these crazy kids under control. We believe in you!
Alright, now for the sappy stuff...
Deep Woods, y’all are SO freaking weird, but I love that! I wouldn’t have made this section my home for four years if I didn’t. Saying goodbye is one of the hardest things I’ve done in college, but it isn’t really a goodbye, just a see you later! I’ll always be your Tenor Mom. Stay weird, Deep Woods, and always remember to keep it tight ;-)
