To Cami LaSala: Last year I wrote about how we were together for 90% of the show. Well, that happened again this year. You bring so much joy to the band; I am so grateful for everything that you do. I know that if I’m having a rough day you’ll say something silly that will make me laugh. To you, I am passing on the chant at Post-Game. I know that you’ll bring the energy needed to lead that chant. Flove.
To Jess Hamilton: You bring forth such laughter. You are truly a beacon of laughter and smiles. I hope that you continue marching. I know that you are going to continue to bring laughter and joy to everyone in your future. You are in charge of making such the piccolos know where the heck they are rowing to. You’ve taken on that role this year, and you have to keep them straight! I also want to pass to you the knowledge of how the Piccolos play Pre-Game: know when we take things down, and when we take it up. Flove.
To Sarah Joyce: I am so happy that you are back in action in the UDMB. You are going to be amazing at managing this band. I know that you are probably going to get swamped with a lot of new responsibilities when you take on that role. I hope that you will still make room for fun and laughs. You are the Glitter Queen; keep the flutes sparkling. Flove.
To Carl Nelson-Poteet: There’s something special about you Carl. I can’t quite put my finger on it just yet. All I know is that you are really going to do great things. I hope you know that you probably know more about where you have to go and what you have to play than I do. I had so much fun marching next to you in block band! Last rank, best rank! I look forward to seeing where life takes you. Flove.
To Audrey Hernadez: Thank you for being the absolute best dot buddy a girl could ask for. My dot lived between you and Cami and I am so thankful for that. You are going to thrive within this program and I wish you all the luck in your future. Flove.
To the people outside of the flutes:
To my rookie buddies (Michael, Justin, Abbi, Alyssa, and Jana Mae): I love this little brass section that I’ve adopted. You each bring something so special to the UDMB. You all have such bright personalities and I am excited to continue to see you all grow. I hope that you all decide to stick with the UDMB and continue on this amazing journey. Know that I am always here if you ever need anything, and I’ll always be there to cheer you on.
To Michael Bruno and Caitlin O’Connor: Thanks for being my adopted Alto friends. You two are both pretty cool. Thanks for dealing with me because I’m friends with Leanna. Caitlin, I hope you stop getting concussions so that you can do normal human things. Michael, your sense of humor has me dying half the time. I hope that you stay weird (in the most loving way).
To Leanna Carroll: Hi. How are you doing? I’m so glad that you decided to go on this incredible journey. Now we both have to face the facts. This is it. We’re done. You have stuck it out with me and my crazy personality for eight years. That’s wild. I’m glad that we’ve stuck together; I’m not sure what I would do without you there. From high school band and stopping at Uncle Willys after every rehearsal and you changing your hair legit every week, to UDMB rehearsals and stopping at Dunkin’, to studying in Italy and obsessing over the Medici, to you letting me send you those weird and crazy October Picture Challenges (you know), you’ve been there with me through thick and thin. I know that life is getting stressful and that the end of college is so close, yet so far. I have complete faith that you are going to go and do great things. I can only hope that we will always be friends through it all.
