Town of Newcomb Comprehensive Plan
Public Meeting
October 15, 2009
th
The following remarks were offered by the public during the October 15 public meeting for
the Town’s comprehensive plan update:
When were traffic studies conducted?
Did the Committee examine the State campsite’s economic benefits?
Did the Committee consider attracting alternative agricultural production?
The Committee should revisit arts and entertainment. There are many opportunities to
develop music and theater programs that can attract participants and visitors alike.
It was suggested that the language explaining the differences between goals and
objectives be clarified. More specifically, objectives are not a “achievements.” They are
“achievements that we hope to have in the future.”
It was suggested that the Committee explore the idea of creating a special taxing
district for Goodnow Flow. The revenue would be directed towards dam repairs.
It was pointed out that the arts, entertainment, and cultural venues can attract the
young. The proposed dormitory and existing school facilities could be utilized.
Are there tax incentives for businesses?
Long Lake’s Theater program at their Town Hall provides a good example for local
theater production.
Should the town pursue one single economic strategy or build upon multiple little
initiatives?
The Committee should support the development of equestrian trails, particularly along
the proposed rail to trail. Boreas Ponds area may present equestrian opportunities.
Regardless, equestrian riders seek long distance loops. If one were created in Newcomb,
it would be a significant economic opportunity.
Did the Committee contact anyone in the wood production industry?
How might wood products and crafts/arts complement one another?
The Town should update its website as part of its marketing efforts.
