  KANORADO, KS
The City of Kanorado is the last city you see as you leave Kansas and the first city you see as you leave Colorado, hence the name KANORADO. It is the second largest city in Sherman County. The land for the railroad was deeded on May 17, 1888. The town was originally called “Lamborn”. On September 9, 1903, the Post Office changed the name to “Kanorado”. The first grain elevator was operated by Charlie Rule and ran with a treadmill and horses. The first car in Kanorado was a High Wheeler owned by Mr. and Mrs. Detwiler. With the increased number of new cars in 1913, Kanorado opened an Oil Station owned by the White Eagle Company. Kanorado continued to grow until it reached a peak during the 1918- 1926 timeframe. At that time, the population was over 500 people. During these peak years, Kanorado had two hotels, three grocery and dry goods stores, five oil companies, two hardware stores,
two barber shops, several cafes, one bank, two pool halls, two blacksmith shops, two lumber yards, a telephone exchange, three garages, a campground with cottages, several cream stations, a drug store with a doctor, a beauty shop and a dance hall.
EDSON, KS
Edson was the last town to have been stated in Sherman County, located just 8 miles east of Goodland. Some of the first settlers of the community were Mrs. Mary Brown, John Austin, John Atkinson, Mr. Holbrook, Casper Kipps, Joe McKinney and several others.
It was originally a rail town and operated on the main line of the Chicago, Kansas, and Nebraska Railway. Today Edson is served by the Kyle Railroad. The plot for the town of Edson was filed in Sherman County on August 10th, 1888 by Albert and Laura Harris. The first structure in Edson was the two-story depot, which served as a depot on the first floor and a home to the station agent on the second story. The first grocery store was brought to the area by Steele Yockey. The Post Office was established on September 12th, 1888. The first elevator was built in 1915 by John Horney. Edson’s first school was in School District 71 and served students, grades one through nine. It was made of sod and was erected in 1886. After a few years, a new schoolhouse was built in 1923. In 1930, a brick building was built. The last addition to the school was a gymnasium in 1963.
