Full of energy, Owen ran straight to the front of the
stage, leaning over the edge of the stage while
shading his face to better see his fans. “Well, hey
there!” Jake Owen greeted his fans like a long-lost
friend you hadn’t seen in years.
Throughout the night, Jake brought the crowd to his
beach. As fans reached out with their phones to take
pictures, he surprised them by taking their phones to
live stream his show on their Facebook pages and
taking selfies with them.
After handing one phone back, Jake grabbed the
microphone. “It’s been ten years since she rolled into
my town…I’ve been touring the country and I still
haven’t seen her again,” Jake Owen said as he opened
the song “The One That Got Away.” Looking around
the crowd you could see the smile on people’s faces.
Owen’s story was so identifiable. At some point
everyone had felt the way Owen just described.
“I grew up in a town not too different from this a
beach town in Florida. This is the time of year when
things start quieting down,” Jake said nodding as the
locals in the crowd whistled. Jake certainly knew how
to hone in on his audience. His next song, “Anywhere
With You,” took us through West Virginia, Mexico,
and even California…and this crowd was definitely
along for the ride.
In keeping with the “beachside” theme, Jake Owen
played his entire show barefoot. This also set the tone
for his closing song choice, the Eric Paslay-penned
song “Barefoot Blue Jean Night.” As Owen held the
microphone out to his appreciative audience and
they enthusiastically sang the chorus -- shoes or no
shoes – there was no doubt that this crowd was
prepared to follow the country crooner anywhere!
