The Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra with 80 members. The majority of our members are volunteer community musicians lead by a handful of professionals to assist the volunteers in accomplishing a high quality performance. Our ticket prices are kept affordable to enable families to experience the joy of classical music. We support local youth musicians through outreach to local schools and collaborative efforts with youth orchestras. We also provide small ensembles for local Senior Centers and Assisted Living Communities, as well as various community events and private functions.
Our three areas of focus: 1. Child and Youth Education Programs a. Child sponsorship and scholarship program which currently has over 220 children sponsored b. Girls’ Education Initiative program to help 150 girls in 3rd to 6th grade so that they can excel and continue into secondary school and avoid early marriage. 2. Income-gen- eration/Self-sufficiency Programs – These include craft marketing for women’s fair trade crafts, business training, micro-loan funds and cash crop agriculture. 3. Community Empowerment Programs : a. Primary and Nursery School, started in 2010, which has over 500 students including 18 teachers. Since then, we have built 5 classroom buildings and a school library. b. Community Health Center which serves 5 villages with 5000 people. We contribute towards staffing and medicines and constructed a maternity hut. c. Home Building Program for women in Jinja, Uganda. We have 6 1/2 acres of land to construct 40 homes.
