Page 87 - CL How to Read a Case Study
P. 87

Imagine yourself as a key player in the case and decide why,

as that person, you acted as you did, the strategy you

developed and the results that followed.

The second reading will allow a clearer picture to emerge. It

will allow the identification of critical issues. This can be

aided by building notes/lists based on:

                   • functions (Finance, Personnel, Production, R&D,

                       Marketing, etc.)

                   • products

                   • structure

                   • management

                   • strategy etc.

Intuitive, first impressions of areas such as those highlighted

above should be built on. Try to identify key problems,

assumptions, etc. and why they are critical. The objective

here is to gain a more detailed picture of what is going on.

               What are

the key issues to be resolved?

How are they to be prioritized? These may be answered by

extending the usefulness of the available information by

combining these in ways that create new information by

               constructing for example:
   82   83   84   85   86   87   88   89   90   91   92
