Imagine yourself as a key player in the case and decide why,
as that person, you acted as you did, the strategy you
developed and the results that followed.
The second reading will allow a clearer picture to emerge. It
will allow the identification of critical issues. This can be
aided by building notes/lists based on:
• functions (Finance, Personnel, Production, R&D,
Marketing, etc.)
• products
• structure
• management
• strategy etc.
Intuitive, first impressions of areas such as those highlighted
above should be built on. Try to identify key problems,
assumptions, etc. and why they are critical. The objective
here is to gain a more detailed picture of what is going on.
What are
the key issues to be resolved?
How are they to be prioritized? These may be answered by
extending the usefulness of the available information by
combining these in ways that create new information by
constructing for example:
