Enhanced (£44)
This includes the same as the standard check plus any additional information held by local police that’s reasonably considered relevant to the role being applied for.
Enhanced with barred list checks (£44)
This is like the enhanced check, but includes a check of the DBS barred lists.
Your safeguarding of cer and/or the Diocesan Safeguarding Commission will be able to advise you on the correct procedures to follow in order to apply for the relevant DBS checks.
Organisations providing care services for adults (e.g. in a care home) can use a service called DBS Adult First (for an extra £6). This will con rm, usually within two days, if the applicant:
Ÿ Can start work, as long as they’re supervised; or Ÿ Should wait for the results of an enhanced check
Update service
The DBS offers an update service which enables an individual to take their certi cate with them from role to role within the same workforce for an annual subscription of £13 (free for volunteers). It means that employers can check the status of an existing DBS certi cate, if it is for the same workforce where the same type and level of criminal record check is required and you have permission of the individual. However, the employer can only make the status check if they could also legally request a new DBS application for the role
the individual will be working in. This is because it is initially the employer’s responsibility to understand and apply the legislation to each role they are recruiting for. An employer can carry out a free, instant online check and will be given the current status of the DBS certi cate.
Currently, an individual can join the update service before submitting their DBS check application form, during the application process or after the issue of the DBS certi cate – they must do this within 19 days of the date of issue displayed on the certi cate.
