With LDI you have an improvement of dry film adhesion (dry film lasts longer in the etchant, but if you exceed the power, or the mix of wavelength energy, you will have a big problem in stripping!
Negative or positive angle of dry film sidewall can take you in a never ending loop.
Exposure parameters are really sensitive to the color of material and surface finish and can change also with a different lot of the same
material, or even with the same lot but with a different surface preparation.
Standard PCM lamination generates a big pollution of dry film chips into the systems.
You must work on really tight environmental parameters.
You must change the operators’ behaviour.

LDI represents today 50-60% of daily production and we are planning to extend that to 90% really soon.
The saving in films, chemistry related, films coupling, it help in mitigate the maintenance contract cost, we estimated at € 80.000 per year
The saving in maintenance and mortages of UV exposure systems will help also: we estimated at € 20.000 per year
The saving by scrap rate reduction is more complicate to estimate, but it is something we calculated as € 50-75.000 per year
On the other side... the obsolescense rate of LDI system is really high at the moment. What is today a top state-of-the-art system will be overtaken by a new higher performance system in 2 years...
