chartered every available airplane from the many
small independent airlines at generous rates. The
subsequent round-the-clock operation instilled in
Laker a mania for punctuality. His profit,
however, came from selling spare parts to the
other airlines.
As an English airline entrepreneur, he was best
known for founding Laker Airways in 1966. The
company was very successful in the beginning
and Laker fulfilled his prophecy of becoming a

competitors, Laker accepted £6 million in
compensation and retreated to the Bahamas. Laker
died on 9 February 2006 in Hollywood, Florida,
USA.
