                  From the last three examples sentences above you
                  will notice that the simple subjects and simple
                  predicates can be more than one word.

                  For each of the following sentences, underline
                  the simple subject:
                  1. The tourist ate the whole apple pie.
                  2. My favorite month is May.
                  3. My expensive new watch has stopped.
                  4. The old hotel in the town center is being
                  knocked down to make way for a new shopping
                  center.
                  5. Before eating his lunch John went to the muse
                  um.
                  6. Waiting by the museum gate in the rain was
                  the tour guide.
                  7. After dinner, I like to have a little nap in front
                  of the television.
                  8. After dinner I like to have a little sleep in fron
                  t of the
                  9. My friend and I went sightseeing after visiting
                  the museum yesterday.
                  10. Many Europeans like dogs.
                  11. Tourists are our guests.
                  12. A tour guide has a lot of responsibilities.
