The new Acres Lake Floating Boardwalk is located on the Shannon Blueway and gives visitors the experience of ‘walking on water’. The natural splendour of this area in rural Ireland stretches around the boardwalk in all directions for a serene, quiet experience. The boardwalk provides views of Acres Lake and the surrounding flora, fauna and the area’s abundant bird life. Visitors can explore the views on bike or foot with the boardwalk, or via canoe or paddleboard in the water. The boardwalk provides a convenient connection between Leitrim Village and Drumshanbo. Hiking the area takes approximately 3 hours and spans 14km. It’s a relatively easy hike, the path should be accessible for most users. The four trailheads are located at Drumhauver Bridge, Drumleague Lock, Battlebridge Lock, and Acres Lake.

The Drowes Salmon Leap is one of Ireland’s most popular Spring and Summer salmon fisheries. Located at Laureen Estate, the fishery is an ideal summertime destination. In addition to salmon, visitors will also have a chance at catching some of the area’s abundant wild brown trout.

permits and licenses or to rent boating equipment. Eleven cabins are available for rent near the leap and provide easy access to the water’s edge. As the Drowes is one of the earliest fisheries to open each year, it often claims the honour of producing the first caught salmon in the country each season.
