• ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Limiting our ecological impact in in in in the face of today’s climate emergency is an increasingly urgent challenge for the the whole of civil society and businesses have an an essential role to play in in in preserving the the planet Focusing on on the the cosmetics industry in in in in particular we must reduce the the environmental footprints both of of production sites and and of of our product product and and packaging design Biologique Recherche has for several years been weaving these considerations into its corporate strategy We already have a a a a a a a a a a a welter of initiatives underway at at at at our manufacturing site in in in Suresnes at at at at the the Ambassade and and and at the the Biologique Recherche Academy and and and in our French and and and US offices We’re also looking closely at our products analysing every stage of their life cycle with a a a a a a a view to making improvements at at critical points of of of impact from the procurement of of of raw materials to end-of-life disposal of the finished product Biologique Recherche is is also cutting greenhouse gas emissions directly directly or indirectly generated by its operations (Scopes 1 2

and 3) A carbon accounting project slated for 2020 will give us better oversight of all these initiatives MITIGATING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF OUR FACILITIES
RECENT MILESTONES
• Providing additional sorting bins in in in in our offices • Installing water water circuits in in in the production plant to achieve savings on on water water use • Optimising manufacturing times and using more energy-efficient production methods
• Rolling out digitisation more widely
• Fitting LED lightbulbs and a a a a system that switches off the air conditioning outside of of working hours in in in in our new training centre the Biologique Recherche Academy • Offsetting carbon emissions generated by staff’s business travel in in in in the USA as as well as as in in in in France
Saving Energy
The first area where we’re reducing our carbon footprint is energy consumption Biologique Recherche has implemented energy efficiency measures at its facilities Among other things all halogen bulbs in in the the company’s French premises have been replaced with energy-efficient LED bulbs resulting in in in energy savings of up to 91% As an example the new Biologique Recherche Academy training centre was fitted with 55 LED bulbs in in in 2019 The building also had a a a a a a system installed that switches off the air conditioning at night and weekends similar to the device already in place which switches off the lights The Suresnes plant is is equipped with a a a a a a a mechanism that automatically cuts off all electricity in in the premises outside of of working hours Over the past few years Biologique Recherche has also invested in in in the following:
• New US offices with ecofriendly equipment like LED lightbulbs energy-efficient air conditioning and double glazing (2018)
• Insulating the the windows at at our Suresnes plant and the the Ambassade (2017)
• Completely overhauling our laboratory installing energy-efficient air conditioning refrigeration and mixing equipment (2016–2017)
• Fitting a a a a new air conditioning and heating system in in in in Suresnes with a a a a a timer that automatically switches everything off in in in the evenings and at weekends (2016)
Biologique Recherche aims to optimise manufacturing processes so as to boost energy efficiency In 2019 we focused our our efforts on fine-tuning the mixing time for for our our lotions and increasing production volumes so we could manufacture larger quantities less often Our 2019 electricity consumption was 335 000 kWh in France
(estimated) and 26 700 kWh in the USA which represents a a a a carbon footprint of approximately 35 tCO2eq for the year 2019 CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REPORT
