        TRADE DISPUTES


        During the period 2012/13 to 2015/16 (Oct. 2012 – Sep. 2016), the Court received
        3,083 new Trade Disputes.     Of these disputes, 60.5% of the matters (1,864) were
        related to dismissal/termination of employment, while others were related to
        suspensions (219 matters), failure to pay wages (167 matters) and failure to pay
        other benefits such as sick leave, injury leave and overtime (117 matters).

        In FY 2015/16 (Oct. 2015 – Sep. 2016), there was a marked increase of over 70% in
        the number of trade disputes filed related to dismissal/termination of employment
        when compared to FY 2014/15 (Oct. 2014 – Sep. 2015).  In the first two quarters of
        FY 2016/17 (Oct. 2016 – Sep. 2017), 437 trade disputes were received by the Court,
        65%  of  which  dealt  with  grievances  related  to  dismissal/termination  of
        employment.  Moreover, consistent with the prevailing industrial relations climate,
        the Court received 5 trade disputes arising from layoffs compared to FY 2015/16
        (Oct. 2015 – Sep. 2016), where there were only 3 such disputes.
