The combat shotgun is a close combat weapon o en used at night, within the
ght confines of a house or building. By the very defini on of close combat,
engagements are expected to be very violent and of short dura on.
Consequently, a combat shotgun needs to be short, lightweight and fast, with
instant target acquisi on capability day or night and a high magazine capacity
to last the whole fight; simple, rugged and dependable go without saying.
Currently all of the combat shotguns that are being used by military and police
are modified semi-auto and pump shotguns originally designed for bird
hun ng. For military and police use, all of these guns feature similar
modifica ons such as rifle style sights, shortened barrels, military style pistol
grips and extended magazine tubes that hold up to 8 rounds. The most
popular semi-auto is the Benelli.
