The Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics is progressing in its efforts to establish a partnership with Purdue University in the United States. The department aims to collaborate with universities in developing nations to identify problem statements from NGOs and university research institutions.The department is working on joint research projects aimed at discovering solutions to these challenges, in collaboration with Bernard Nartey, a program specialist at the University.
The DUT delegation visited international universities in Nigeria and Ghana from in March 2025.This visit aimed to initiate and enhance collaborative initiatives, including international guest lectures, student and staff exchanges, joint supervision of postgraduate students, joint publications, and joint grant applications. The universities visited include Afe Babalola University, Obafemi Awolowo University, and the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, as well as Takoradi Technical University and Ghana Communications Technology University in Ghana.
Innobiz DUT is currently in the process of formalizing agreements with two Thai universities, which were visited earlier in the year. Additionally, the university has entered into an internship agreement with Université de la Réunion through the ESIROI program, and a partnership development with Kumaraguru College of Technology in KZN IEETR is also underway
3.6.2 Student and Faculty Exchange Programmes
This quarter, DUT has a number of students participating in international exposure programmes. These programmes allow students to gain firsthand experience of different cultures and educational environments, helping to broaden their skillsets. Throughout these programmes, they will be assessed on their technical abilities, including tasks such as designing state and transition diagrams, applying scheduling algorithms, and performing system administration tasks in accordance with security policies. Additionally, the programmes emphasizes the development of graduate attributes such as critical thinking, creativity, effective communication, and cultural awareness.
The Department of Civil Engineering & Geomatics under EBE hosted international exchange students from France in February 2025, providing them with an orientation to DUT.The university is also planning for the arrival of two international students from the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna, Austria, as part of the Erasmus Exchange Programme, set for April through August 2025. Whereas, the Department of Construction Management & Quantity Surveying has secured funding for a research visit and exchange programme with the Simon Diedong Dombo University in Ghana.
The Department of Chemistry under FAS will participate in the upcoming academic exchange programme at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Nigeria. It is an opportunity to engage in a two-month academic and research collaboration to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and building strategic partnerships that benefit DUT and the broader academic
community. The engagement at FUTO will focus on advancing research collaborations, facilitating knowledge exchange, and fostering partnerships that align with DUT’s strategic objectives and ENVISION2030 goals.This exchange is made possible through the generous support of the Research Capacity Development Grant Allocation. Furthermore, two students from the Department of Horticulture visited the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture in Philippines from in January 2025.The students were hosted the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CNAR). During their stay, the students were integrated into the academic programme in the BSc Degree in Horticulture.
Additionally, the International Education and Partnership (IEP) team has been conducting orientation sessions for international students, which includes both full-degree students and semester exchange participants. Plans are also underway for immersive discussions between local and international students focusing on sustainability themes, in line with DUT’s ENVISION2030 strategic objectives. These activities contribute to the commitment of cultivating adaptive, globally aware graduates prepared to meet the challenges of a changing world.
The student exchange experience has helped students to broaden their perspectives on international academic practices and enhanced their cross-cultural communication skills and global awareness. These initiatives further support DUT’s commitment to internalization, fostering innovation, and creating an engaged, internationally connected university community.
3.6.3 Global Research Initiatives and International Conferences.
Innobiz DUT took eight incubated students to Thailand for the 10- day SUT Global Entrepreneurial Camp. This experience provided the students with entrepreneurial training, exposure to Thai culture, and valuable insights into innovation. The camp, themed “Sustainable and Resilient Communities: Innovating for a Healthier Planet and People,” centered on key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 11, 13, and 15.Through a combination of classroom learning and outdoor activities, participants explored these critical topics in depth.
In addition to the rich academic content, the camp facilitated interactions with international participants, offering DUT’s student entrepreneurs the unique opportunity to engage with a diverse range of cultures. This exposure broadened their understanding of global entrepreneurship and the challenges and opportunities within the field.The camp also served as an important networking platform, fostering potential collaborations between student entrepreneurs from various countries.
Moreover, the FAI is currently collaborating with the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences on an article that will be presented at the Future Festival 2025 in Berlin. This partnership highlights the faculty’s dedication to advancing global academic discussions and research in innovative fields. Additionally, the faculty was represented at the International Symposium on Computer Science and Bioinformatics (ISCBI) in China.
