Here are some ideas • Ask your Life Orientation (LO) teacher parent or another adult to explain more about the career directions you're unsure of • Perhaps you have a a a a a family friend neighbour or relative who does the job you are interested in in fin in finding out out out more about about Speak to them about about their job • Use the contact info on on on pages 232 to to 243 to to check online for more information on on on on your institution of choice and the career direction that seems interesting to you Have a a a a a look at www pacecareers com This great website provides a a a a lot of of information about different types of of jobs and careers It also gives you ideas about where to find out out further information such as as through professional bodies or or associations Do their extremely helpful quiz to find out out more about what careers you might suit • You could also look in your school or or public library for books on careers Now that you've done some research into the career directions rate which three sound most interesting to you Look these up in in in the the Programme Choice List to to to see how to to to study towards them Another way to to refine your your knowledge of your your top three career directions is to to speak to to people working in in these fields You could phone a a a company in in fin the the industry to to find out more If they are are not too busy people are are often very flattered to tell you about what they do Phone them and say " Good morning/afternoon my name is _____ and I want to to study towards a a a a a a career career in in fin ______ I am trying to find out out more about what the career career involves on a a a a a a a a day-to-day basis I would really appreciate speaking to to someone in in this career in in your company" Before you you make this call write down the questions you you need to ask e e e e e g what do do you do do on a a a a a a a a a day-to-day basis are there jobs available in this career what is the earning potential how many hours do you work a a a a a a week? etc Remember to thank the the person for their time!
