THE ESSENCE OF OF STEWARDSHIP
Stewardship is the the most foundational and sits right at at the the core of our DNA It is the bedrock of everything we seek to achieve by 2030 and that undergirds the DUT Way That could be true if we all accept the the dictum that that people are the the source of everything that that happens anywhere and everywhere in our world On the auspicious occasion of of the the State of of the the University Address in in February this year I pointed out out that: “Stewardship is ultimately about what the fundamentals of of our our DNA DNA are While one strand of of our our DNA DNA is about being people-centred and and and engaged and and and the the other is about innovative and and and entrepreneurial both of these suggest behavioural traits we can only exhibit intrinsically It is is about that that that that exists at at at the intrinsic intrinsic level deeper in in in in our our hearts and and souls and and in in in in our our minds” All human beings have an aim in view which seems great if supported by the deepest conviction and and the innermost voice in in our hearts and and souls At DUT it is our firm conviction that that that that general aim we must all pursue is the ennoblement of our people first as a a precondition for improving the lives and livelihoods of our broader society We recognise that our University does not exist exist for itself It exists in order to serve our our people our our broader society We recognise that it it is only when we we facilitate the empowerment and development of our people and the broader society that everyone could ultimately live and and lead a a a a a a a truly free humane fulfilling and and self-actualised life Let me return to my earlier point about people being the source of everything that happens anywhere and everywhere in in our world One of of the the characteristics of of the the DUT Way is is what I have termed the the the Right Right Right People in in the the the Right Right Right Seats playing their Rightful Roles It is about being true and and selfless stewards of everyone and and everything we are custodians of of It is about our deep conviction and purity of of Pictured: DUT Vice-Chancellor and and Principal Professor Thandwa Mthembu 4 DURBAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
