Welcome to our latest edition of Pipeline. As the first quarter comes to a close, we find ourselves in an unprecendented crisis— responding to COVID-19. Since the virus came to Michigan, we’ve taken extreme and early actions to ensure the safety of our employees, their families and our customers, including having as many employees work or deploy from home as possible. We’ve put several of our field and plant workers on paid standby, and provided the appropriate PPE for those who’ve been named critical and must still report to a BWL campus.
This virus has been devastating to our community, which is
why we’re doing everything we can to help. We’ve temporarily stopped all electric and water shut-offs, and we’re helping connect our customers to the financial assistance they may need during these challenging times.
Yet, I know our employees are resilient. Check out later in this edition how some people have adapted to working from home— everything from building new desks, to adjusting to working while also teaching their kids. This Time Out even talks to one of our customer service representatives and how they’ve transitioned
to taking calls from home! We have seen people adapt and persevere, learning new technologies to stay connected and informed.
I have always seen this organization function as a family, and now more than ever, we have to pull together. We need to check on our coworkers and see how they’re doing, with their workload and otherwise. We need to support each other, because we will get through this.
I again want to say thank you to all of you for being adaptable as we all sort out this temporary new normal. I appreciate the work
everyone has put in, whether at home, in the field or in the plants. I’m proud of us, and
I’m proud that our customers
are still receiving the best utility services and customer service they’ve come to expect. Because we’re all in this together.
