 Linksters’ Luck Holds Till Sectionals
The temperatures were chilly throughout early spring, but had no effect on the Varsity Golf Squad, who kept things hot for their competitors. Despite the loss of sever al key Seniors, the Linksters were able to demonstrate their golden aspirations in a tough league. Losing only 4 matches under highly competitive circumstances, the squad kept up their Olympic pace throughout the season. Led by Senior Kent Hitchcock and Junior Kevin Barry,
the Golfers achieved an impressive 11-4-1 record in League Play.
The lone tie game was logged against Cicero-NS; which proved to be one of their most exciting matches. Facing a tough course and an equally tough opponent, the Brothers held the Northstars from gaining a badly needed edge.
Careful! Kevin Speach goes for the green.
Equally exciting were 3 well played matches against perenial foe, Nottingham. Both Barry and Hitchcock sparked the team to decisive scores against the Bulldogs.
With these contests as background, it was no surprise that the clubbers performed at a fever pitch in the Eastern Zone Qualifiers at the challenging Greenview Golf Course. Coach Robert Campbell had every reason to be pleased with his squad as they swept past their seven opponents to advance to sectional play. While sectional play saw a less spectacular outcome for the Brothers, it was evident that with talented performers such as David and Kevin Speach, the Linksters would produce an irreversible mo mentum for next spring.
