It’s always a challenge in a school such as CBA to keep student spirit at a peak. Yet, if there ever was a year when things seemed to be working at high gear, it was this year. Under the leadership of President Jim Stephens and his Executive Board: Jerry Mingolelli, Kevin Barry, and Scott Callahan; the Student Senate saw a new level of involvement from the student body. Critical to this in creased participation were such morale boosting events as Class Racquetball parties. Middle School and Fresh men Field Days, and Winter Week.
Stephens, who had a connection with Sundown Rac quetball club in Liverpool, led the drive to implement the highly successful racquetball parties — which not only brought students together but raised money for their class treasuries as well. Mingolelli organized the Orientation Field Days and Donut Shop, while Barry and Callahan coordinated Winter Week with the Class Officers. Senate
Moderator Mr. Roy Dado noted: “ I haven’t seen such close cooperation between the Executive Board and the Class Officers in some time.” Notable among the Officers’ efforts was a first time bake sale under the direction of Sophomore Class President Bob Lyons. In addition to this type of cooperation, the Booster Club worked closely with the Executive Board — resulting in frequent posters anda monthly calendar on the main Bulletin Board.
While the donation of another computer terminal anda color TV receiver for the school’s new video tape record er headed the list of financial contributions of the Senate, there were other actions taken by the group which helped to make its influence felt throughout the school.
In the final analysis, it was clear that the Senate's activity — though hectic — contributed significantly to greater school spirit throughout the year.
