Ready or not, Tom Young begins.
Armand DiScenna receives some last minute advice from Mr. Charlebois before the Richfield Springs Tournament.
The loss of several key Seniors, a slow start and a change of Coaches spelled rough times for the Forensics team. Yet each difficulty was turned around in the Broth ers’ favor by late winter. Original Orators Jerry Mingolelli and Stuart LaRose as well as Interpreter Tom Young and Extemper Lewis Kapell kept the team in competitive shape as it sought to overcome the early fall obstacles
which it faced.
While the Port Byron tournament saw the squad return home for the first time in a year without a team trophy, individual accomplishments by Young and Kapell as well as LaRose, kept the team in the news. In addition the group was able to garner a second place finish at its own
tournament — only one point behind Rochester’s Bishop Kearney. This breathed life into the team and, although the Bishop Grimes tournament was a bit disappointing, an overnight tournament at Richfield Springs as well as sev eral excursions in late winter honed the team into better shape as several team members qualified for the spring
State Finals in Albany. By spring. Interpreter Armand DlScenna began to come on strong, while novice Ex temper John Hughes and Declaimer Greg Margetin gained the necessary experience to bring better results next year.
Critical to the team’s success next year was the as sumption of coaching responsibilities by Mr. Brendan Charlebols who was able to recruit a large number of freshmen and sophomores to the squad. Also helpful to the team was the formation of a Middle School group who participated in several area Junior High tourneys.
