C.B.A.'s 1979 tennis team had a very
successful season, winning the Cities League
championship for the fifth consecutive year.
The netmen were undefeated in C.N.Y.C.L.
competition, with most of their matches
being quite lopsided.
In singles. Junior Pete Vlassis, Sophomore
limmy Vlassis, and Freshman Eric Weinheimer
proved to be an unbeatable trio throughout
the year. Besides consistent winning
performances in league matches, all three
triumphed in the year-end tournament. Pete
Vlassis continued his dominance of first-flight
singles foes in regaining his Section III crown
and thus reaffirming his position as Central
New York's finest junior player. His match
record was fourteen victories, one defeat.
However, the team's great success was also
rooted in the fact that the doubles teams
were able to play so well, and with the same
unequaled consistency that characterized the
singles effort. The doubles teams of Mark
Moore-Dee Hale, and Steve Bersani-|ohn
Sammis contributed big points during the
season. Moore was a Junior, while Hale,
Bersani, and Sammis were all Sophomres.
For the second year in a row, the Brothers
completed a highly-informative and
successful trip to Duke University in North
Carolina during Spring Recess. The squad
played many of the local scholastic teams and
hope to make the experience an annual
event. Finally, all of the above players will be
returning this season as C.B.A. seeks to regain
the sectional title.
