The CBA Varsity track team repeated as Cities League champions in 1979.
The Brothers went undefeated in CNYCL dual meets with a record of seven wins, no losses. They also won the year-
end City meet; their only big win in an invitational. The trackmen also competed in meets at Baldwinsville (second).
New Hartford (third), Utica-Proctor (third), and the sectionals at New Hartford (second). Coach Jerry Riordan thought
that C.B.A. should have won this last competition, but cited a failure to score points in the field events and a heart
breaking dropped baton in a relay, as the causes of defeat. Still, Rome edged out the Brothers by a mere two points.
The dual meet against Fowler was also very close, C.B.A. pulling it out by twelve points on the efforts of Mike Egen
and Brian Buck.
The field events were supported by the juniors Don McCarthy (discus, shot) and Jerry Daniszewski (discus). Alex
Bohatiuk and Paul Ascioti competed in the jumping events, while John Rizzo was the lone pole vaulter. The team had
some very fast sprinters including Dino Campbell, who ran a 9.8 100 before hurting himself in a dual meet versus
Corcoran. Mike Egan came close to a school mark in the 880, and Jody Bradley won at the Section III meet as well.
The Brothers were lucky to have three fine hurdlers — Brian Buck, Mike Luber and Jeff Adams. Buck won at the
Sectionals and ran some excellent races in the 330 intermediate hurdles, including a time of 38.9 seconds.
Dave McPeak, Tim McMahon and the Jurick Brothers (Jerry and Dana) were effective in the 1 and 2 mile run, while
John Hackney excelled in the mile walk.
In the relays, C.B.A. was quite strong with Bradley, Egan, Don McPeak, Brian Anderson, and Phil Corcoran in the two
mile relay event.
Coach Riordan praised Egan and Buck in particular, saying, "When we really had to do it, they turned things around
for us".
