1979 was a good year for both the varsity and junior varsity
golf teams at CBA. The varsity, coached by Kevin (mr.)
Conroy, finished second in the CNYCL to Bishop Ludden with
a record of 15 wins and 3 losses. The junior Varsity, coached
by Mr. Ted Lankowicz, won nine of eleven matches, although
league standins were not kept at this level of play.
The Varsity team included Seniors John McNeill, junior
Rusty Smith, Sophomores John Flynn and Chris Isleib, and
Freshman Ed O'Donnell. McNeill and Stone made the
sectionals and played in the tournament at the Seven Oaks in
Hamilton, New York. Throughout the season the Brothers had
little trouble disposing of their foes, excepting two defeats at
the hands of league-champion Ludden and one loss to always-
tough Watertown. The team members enjoyed playing at
home course Drumlins West, but their favorite layout was
Greenview in Oneida, site of the sectionals and of important
victories over North Syracuse and Cicero. Said one player,
"Greenview is definitely one of the better courses in Central
New York. It has lots of water and is very well-designed."
Although the Seniors were the team leaders. Freshman Ed
O'Donnell showed that he is one of the most promising
players to come to CBA in years.
