 Summer Vacation...
As the bees began to buzz again, and the tem peratures rose to a boiling point, it became clear that summer had fallen on us again, so heavy that it was all we could think about. Enticing enough to be the perfect drug, and after days of sticking painfully to desks and seats, after hours of counting the sweat beads on your teachers nose, it happened. Summer vacation.
Over summer vacation, we had the chance to escape from school, but on the contrary, Lindsey Martin and Liz Murray used their break to look at colleges all the way In New Orleans. And a cer tain senior religion teacher became a lawfully wedded husband. The cheerleading team went to Myrtle Beach to compete In a national com petition, while other sports teams participated in rigorous sport camps. Many traveled to foreign countries taking in the diverse culture. Looking back, it was even fun at the summer job you had.
Working your week away (or so you thought) only to get a $30.00 paycheck. ($30.00?!?!) But it was responsibility, and it felt really good. To some ex tent, this was freedom. There were the car trips on your way to Florida, California, or Colorado, that felt like a punishment. Innocently switching your position to better see the cows outside, only to feel the most painful bum in the world as your sweaty legs were ripped from the leather uphol stery.
And just about the time you started to get into the groove of things — getting up at noon or solv ing bedhead and bad BO with a quick dip in the pool, it ended. As quickly as it came, it had gone. All too soon school bells could be heard in your ears . . . but what a great summer it had been.
