Girls ‘Basketball
In their fourth year of varsity play, the Brothers proved that they will no longer be taken for granted in the Metro League. With Theresa Quilty in her second year as head coach, the girls were ready and willing to play hard from day one.
Coach Quilty’s style of play consisted of mastering the basic fundamentals first, with everyone being an important asset to the team. The team was led by co­ captains Erica Speach, who captured her one-thousandth point this year and Joanne Castro, who also provided senior leader­ ship and a strong work ethic. Both are 4
year starters who specialize on defense. Kristy Carbone was always relied on for the 'shot’ and Laura Murphy dominated the boards. There were no juniors on the squad, which means the young, but tal­ ented underclassmen consisting of soph­ omores Katie Ryan, Kelly Romano and Ly- nette Santana will provide a solid team for years to come. This year’s squad also con­ sisted of 2 eighth graders, Stacy Grado- ville and Kelly Boyle.
The Brothers have come a long way since their varsity debut 4 years ago. The combination of Miss Quilty’s dedication, enthusiasm, and positive reinforcement together with the talent and commitment of the girls, the team will achieve even greater success in the future.
Girls J.D. "Basketball
Considering it was their first year the Girl’s Junior Varsity Basketball team did very well. The team consisted of mostly 8th graders but there were a few older players to balance out the team’s expe­ rience. They won a few games to cover up their losses to powerhouses like Fulton and Central Square.
Coaches, Mr. Greg Pirano and Miss Ju­ dy Cashier worked the team hard to lead them to their victories. The coaches played the girls fairly equally, pleasing most of them. The girls played a great season and they look forward to the girl’s basketball program next year.
