Picture this: New school, new faces, new
dress code, new lockers, new teachers, new
classes, new halls — everything was new,
new, new, and more new. Yes, even a new
generation entering the 7th grade. Con
fused we were at first — names, times,
numbers, and schedules. I clearly remem
ber the ritual of sitting on the bleachers in
the gym and after all the warm welcomes
being sent off to our new home rooms. It
sure was not the start of just another school
year. I will always remember the end of the
first day when I declared, "One day down,
and six years to go!"
In addition to all the new things we dis
covered, we were put through the tire
some processes of having our pictures tak
en for our student identification, and lis
tening to faculty talk. A second nervous
feeling was being left to fill out your sched
ule and saying, "My gosh! Why do I have
to take this class?" Once we had filled out
what seemed like thousands of C.B.A.
forms, we once again were made to feel
rather uncomfortable by having to tell 29
or so new students what our names were,
where we lived, etc. After we had embar
rassed ourselves along with our new class
mates, we were taken to a location down
the hall from our home room and were
told to turn in a rather sizeable check our
parents had given us. In return, we were
given a bag of glossy, paperback books. Boy,
did I feel ripped off! We returned to our
home rooms and browsed through the
books that we knew at some point in the
year we would feel like burning. Following
this, we were once again asked to embar
rass ourselves by being allowed to con
verse with our neighbors sitting next to us.
The day drew to a close, and we were
tired, only having been in school a half day,
wondering how we were going to make it
in a school like this. Some of us said good
bye to new people we had met, and some
said good-bye to people they already knew.
Of all the days we went to C.B.A., and all
the days we will go to C.B.A. in the years
to come, one day we will never forget, as
long as we live, will be our first day at C.B.A.
Seventh Grade Science is a lot of fun.
