 Spread The Word
Eighth Graders Passing Notes
Notes. A silent but effective way
for friends to talk to each other with
out saying a word. Eighth Graders
perfected passing notes. It was not
just girls, either.
Picture this: It was third period and
your friend was sitting next to you
and you couldn't talk to her. Well,
wait. Remember, you shoved a piece
of paper in your desk before class.
You took it out, scribbled some stuff
on it, folded it up in some crazy shape
and hid it.
"Class, I have to leave for a mo
ment," said the teacher regretfully.
This was the perfect time to give the
note to your friend. You threw it.
Good, it landed on the desk. Your
friend opened it (or at least tried to!),
then she wrote her reply, folded it
back up, and threw it back to you.
When you read it, you tried not to
giggle so you wouldn't get in trou
ble. Then you looked at your friend.
Most notes were folded into odd
shapes. Others were folded into sim
ple squares. Some notes contained
gossip or opinions. But the purpose
of any kind of note was simple: they
were another way of talking for
Eighth Graders.
